His total absence makes no sense. It must be by design. Maybe Chase
is trying to lull us into forgetting him then it'll come as a big
surprise in the final episode when he pops up and plays some kind of
major role in the finale. If it goes that way it'll be interesting to
see how it gets set up so quickly with Artie missing most of the
season.

His story arc ended last season but he was at Chris's funeral

Maybe. But if you think about it that doesn't make any sense either
because from episode one both Artie and his restaurant have been plot
fixtures. Maybe they can deemphasize Artie because his arc is
supposedly over, but why Vesuvio? Everything connected to Artie is
missing. Conspicious by their absence.

I've been watching some of Season 1 on DVD, and it's amazing how
involved Artie used to be. Even though he was never directly involved
in the Sopranos family, he was always on the fringe. Quite a fall
he's had the last few seasons.

I think his being a regular in the series officially ended last season
when the crew found a better restaurant.

What about the character named Brady Hamilton? What happened to him?
He moved to Florida, didn't he?

I met the actor last year and he seemed to be done with it

He's holding on to the hope of a possible "Mickey Blue Eyes" sequel.

Maybe he's hoping for a Tony Darrow (Larry Boy) progression, from
wimpy restaurant owner to made guy.

You know, I was thinking exactly the same thing. Actually I wasn't thinking
/exactly/ the same thing - but I was with you for the title of the post. I
know he's not coming back.... But more I was thinking about how Chase gave
Artie his chance in front of the lens in S6 pt A so he can whistle for any
more air time.

I spotted him at Chris's funeral talking to the guys but no on air
dialog.

Where is that priest for that matter? Did I forget that they write
him out of the show somehow?

Father Intintola is so smarmy and venal a character that it would almost
be relief if he were simply the garden-variety pedophile priest. Paul
Schulze's performance in that role is remarkable. The character is so
morally ambiguous that you suspect he has to starch his cassock in order
to walk upright.
