Whatever you called them in your part of the country, if you a 40-something
you have to remember them--and I've got them in MINT condition, still sealed
in the original packages from the early 70s. Now this rare find can be
yours, just check out the sets I still have up for sale, at newly reduced
prices:

used to able to get the cherry only and then a mixed wrap of the others.

they were something else. i think they are British ?

Been teaching myself keyboards, Dave, started with "in the light", that's a
nice place to start. never really put the time into it before but I sat
down and one night and it just all came together and I was playing scales.
It pays, I've found, to think in terms of key sigs and sharps and flats. A
lot different to just shifting up or down a positon as you do with guitar
and often not even thinking in terms of notes and intervals because it fits
a lot easier with guitar.

I took piano, more on this later, but mostly self taught on guitar so
we're bassackwards of each other there, LOL One thing I found is that
even though I have a hard time reading music for guitar, I can at least
do it to some extent due to having had to learn it for piano. Still
have more trouble with bass clef than treble when reading for the keys.
Mucked about some on friend's organs (geez, an opening there, LOL???)
and do love the sound of a well played pipe or hammond, but never could
get the hang of all the stops and pedals...

Now back to piano lessons. Started at 9, took them until 13. Came in
one day to my teacher with the Beatles Top 40 Songbook and the Eleton
John, first album, songbook and asked if she'd help me learn some of
the songs.

"I'll not have you playing that SHIT on my Steinway" was the exact
quote that day, and that was the last day of my lessons

I also played the sax from age 8 til 12. Got orthodontia, aka braces,
and had to stop playing. When I got out of the army at 21 and was
hankering' to pick up the sax, found out my Mom had sold it while I was
keeping the world safe for democracy. One of the few times I was ever
really mad at her...

they both have their strong points, and things one can do on each that
doesn't transpose to the other. But as JPJ and JPP showed us, a rockin'
guitar and some tasty piano/keys can complement each other rather well.

I would say that Little Richard, Johnnie Lee Johnson (Chuck Berry) and
Jerry Lee Lewis showed us that, and JPJ and JPP merely carried on the
tradition. Nothing wrong with that, but let's put the credit where it
belongs.

They were fun. every six weeks it was trip to "the butcher" at least three
other kids at school had the same orthodontist. msut have had it for teenage
boys. I never wore the band afterwards. Ran into one of those same guys and
know has front teeth missing. They all push forward eventually.

Did you ever buy another one? Recorder was bad enough. the fingering for
notes never made any sense to me as to how each note is formed but i didn't
study it too deeply, my sister played flute and actually performed at the
opera house once in an orchestra, but nah it wasn't for me.

Absolutely. Howe and Wakeman/Kaye/Moraz as well in that regard.

I think I have the same case . . the big plastic number with 'Fender' sunk

My grandmother sold my mother's piano after she came to live in Sydney, I

the Piano version is actually better than the guitar version as far as
guitar goes, I seem to remember the whole of SIBLY was scribed out in the
piano book, just the chord boxes in the guitar book.

I can play a few of them, the easier ones, CD, Black dog, STH, TWS, WLL, I
guess it's like anything, if you put the time and effort in.

whatelse <thinking> . . . OTAFA, the tab for that was in a guitar mag I
have so I've been having a go at that.

I have the tab book for Physical Graffiti, which is accurate and includes as
many staves as it takes to scribe each guitar overdub used, up to six in
some cases, paino, drums, bass, vocals. Don't know if you've seen it, it's
never been mentioned here, I can post tab from it if anyone's interested,
maybe it's already on the tab sites, I dunno.

You might be able to help on this, if you remember the old 75 film
Rollerball, do you remember the opening organ piece from that film, it's a
well known classical piece that I've never found the name of and would like
to learn to play. It's definitely in a minor key. You wouldn't happen to
know the name of it by any chance ? It may be by Brahms.

Yeah, but the big advantage to keyboard is that you actually get to
see the way sharps and flats are laid out in the scale, unlike guitar,
where one note looks just like the next. It's a good idea to learn
some piano just for that reason. I never could get the hang of
playing piano, but it certainly made me understand how music is laid
out a lot better.

nice place to start. never really put the time into it before but I sat
down and one night and it just all came together and I was playing scales.
It pays, I've found, to think in terms of key sigs and sharps and flats. A
lot different to just shifting up or down a positon as you do with guitar
and often not even thinking in terms of notes and intervals because it fits
a lot easier with guitar.
Yeah, but the big advantage to keyboard is that you actually get to
see the way sharps and flats are laid out in the scale, unlike guitar,
where one note looks just like the next. It's a good idea to learn
some piano just for that reason. I never could get the hang of
playing piano, but it certainly made me understand how music is laid
out a lot better.
yeah and playing sheet musci as well, takes the confusion out of "know the
rules before you break them". On keyboards you think in terms of playing a
lydian scale whereas with guitar it's like your playing a D scale in A but
on keyboards it all makes more sense in that reagrd.

They were banned in my home town -- some kids were using them as weapons.
