Discussion:
They were going to Dover, Delaware

From the HBO website:

Tony is sufficiently troubled by his feelings to schedule an
appointment with Dr. Melfi, who tells him that his desire to resist a
destructive impulse is a breakthrough. So he quickly moves to
re-establish the platonic nature of his and Adriana's relationship, to
their mutual relief. Then, with Christopher in North Carolina on
business and Adriana's car on the fritz, Tony offers her a ride home
from work. Despite the fact that it's 2 AM, they decide to drive to
Delaware to score some coke and, swerving to avoid a raccoon, Tony
flips his Escalade on its side. Although Adriana is briefly
hospitalized, their injuries are relatively minor - but a scandal
ensues that has potentially lethal consequences.

So they were in Delaware..as someone who lives in North Delaware, and
has traveled in north NJ extensively, its at least a 3 hour drive down
the Turnpike, over the Delaware Memorial Bridge, and down Rt 1 to
Dover..quite a ways to score some coke.

I agree. Long way to go. But hey, "they were tawking!"
Seriously, Tony as the boss should have been able to score some local coke.
But I think he wanted an excuse to spend a few hours with Adrianna. That way
they could discuss their medical problems.

Maybe Tony doesn't want the locals to know he is snorting coke. If it
got around it might be bad for business.

No one EVER mentioned Dover, did they? I only heard Delaware mentioned.
As for going down there, I'm sure Tony doesn't want word to spead on his
turf that A) He's alone with Christopher's fiance and B) That he's doing
Coke. People have enough doubts about him as it is.

Delaware was only mentioned when the doctor said his mother was the first
black doctor to practice in Delaware. The rest of times only Dover was
mentioned, by the guy who Chris delivered the cigarettes to and by Chris who
said "she has a sick aunt in Dover". It had to be NJ since T and Adriana
left the club around 2 AM and they were in Mt. Mercy Hospital in Dover
around 2 AM after the accident.

Nork is Nork and New-Ark is New-Ark and never the twain shall meet.

If you live in North Jersey and someone mentions a connection in Dover at 2
a.m. it usually means Dover, New Jersey home to many drug dealers since the
sixties.

I disagree, I'm in NJ and I didn't for a moment think they were talking
about Delaware. The roads leading to Dover NJ suck too, every time I
have to head out that way I feel nauseous. I'm surprised it was a
raccoon instead of a deer on those winding boondocks roads out there.

Yep, and we all fell for it....again. We all thought the rumors would be
about Adriana flipping to become a rat-bitch for the feds.

I'd like to see Christopher discover she's a rat, let Tony find out,
that way he can whack her with Tony's approval, then take up with
Rosalie Aprile & get some older woman action going on. Rosie's the queen
mother, being Jackie's widow, and she's still getting kicked up to,
she's got clout, she knows the drill of life in 'our thing' and she's
not a bad looking woman for her age. Oh yeah, and she won't rat.

there is a Dover straight out on rt 80. It looks far enough to be out of the

Yep, HBO changed their site. Another fan site, www.the-sopranos.com,
copies material straight from the HBO site and the episode guide for
that episode says Delaware, which the HBO site originally said, then
they changed it to Dover. Why? Did that mess up their storyline? Did it
poke holes in their credibility? Would anybody in northern New Jersey
have a regular coke connection in Delaware? Probably not. Dover, New
Jersey would be more plausible, and they could say 'Well that's what we
meant', but you've got this doctor mentioning Delaware. Why would he be
mentioning Delaware if they weren't IN Delaware. I hate revisionist history.

Because that's where his grandmother was the first licensed black woman doctor.
It could have been Georgia or Alabama - it happened to be Delaware. It
doesn't mean that they were in Delaware.

He mentioned his grandmother as part of his qualifications, thinking that Tony
was considering him incompetent because he's black.

I didn't think it would matter what state his grandmother practiced medicine
in. I thought the doc felt Tony was skeptical of him due to race?? Or did I
read that part of the scene wrong?? Didn't the doc just want Tony to know that
he (the doc) comes from a family of medicine/practicing doctors?? So it
wouldn't make a difference which state it was??
Clarify for me please. thks.

That's what I thought it was. And I think it probaby was. Where they gonna
find a racoon at that time of the night?
Racoons are nocturnal. If you see one running around in the daytime, it more
than likely has rabies.

LOL. I agree. This Dover--Delaware-New Jersey thing has gotten way too
much air time.

Yeah, but how you gonna get him to run in front of an automobile? Much
easier with a cat.

I thought it was a cat too! The whole "raccoon" thing seemed part of
the story they cooked up about why they were out late at night.

And, as someone who lives in NJ, I find it HIGHLY unlikely that
someone from Bergen County NJ would say "Dover" and mean Delaware. In
fact, there are 2 Dovers in NJ. One in North Jersey out Route 80 and
one near Toms River, NJ. The one out Rte. 80 is only about 45 minutes
from Bergen County.
