I am getting sick and tired of all the darn swear word's used on Deadwood.
Every time I watch this show with my children, I am embarrassed having to
explain the meaning of all these word's to my kid's. Like last Sunday
night - it is not historically accurate that the first word learned by
Chinese immigrant's was c********r (I blanked it out because kid's may be
reading this chatroom). At least when they curse on the Sopornos, they swear
in Italian so nobody understand's it.

Every time a swear word is used, it is used in a different context. That
must be explained to my kid's. My kid's have been taught not to use
violence, and they aren't angered by my teaching them. On the contrary, they
enjoy having a father who trie's to teach them right from wrong. My reasons
for eschewing swear word's is because they are profane. That is reason
enough.

I am getting sick and tired of all the darn swear word's used on Deadwood.
Every time I watch this show with my children, I am embarrassed having to
explain the meaning of all these word's to my kid's. Like last Sunday

I enjoy the documentorial aspect's of Deadwood, but do they really have to
swear? It adds nothing to the plot, theme or to the character's in the show.
Especially with Chinese business owner Wu - it is impossible that the first
words a person learns in another language is a cuss word. Similarly with
Richard Pryor, why does he have to curse? It doesn't add to his jokes, and I
have to pause the DVD every time he swear's in order to explain what it
mean's to my children. Thank goodness for DVR!

Actually, cuss words are often the first words a foreigner uses. They tend
to be in the company of lower classes so they are privy to the cuss words.

family by the fine people at TiVo. It allows responsible parent's to stop at
every mature scene to allow us to explain thing's to our children. It also
has the side benefit of inspiring our children to never satiate their
learning instinct and it also learn's them patience. I am being a great
father.

a tv show, writing on a newsgroup REQUIRES that you swear in order to invoke
laughter and properly express your emotions.

I enjoy the show, so why wouldn't I watch it? I just find all the
cursing repugnant. It doesn't add to the storyline. It isn't
historically accurate. It is a well-known historical fact that there
weren't any homosexual's back in the 19th century, so how could they
use the most common cuss word that they resort to?
Nobody enjoys that Janice is 350 lbs either, but nobody suggests that

Actually, I read somewhere that all those cuss words they use are 3 or 4
hundred years old. So, since they're all English words, and Deadwood is a
predominantly English speaking settlement, and the people living there for
the most part are of the rough around the edges variety, these well-used
words somehow never got used there? You know, for a Mormon, you don't know
what you're talking about.
