Discussion:
Phil maybe was Vito's lover?

They spent a lot of time together.

They both had unhappy wives.

Vito mentioned Eugene being in the closet
as a cause for his depressive suicide.

Phil was very vocal about wanting Vito
killed as soon as his homosexuality became
known. Perhaps to silence him?

Phil had Vito gagged quickly during the
final attack, perhaps to keep him from
saying, "Not you! You're my lover!"

And of course, Phil emerged from a
closet to witness the attack.

Trivia: During the initial showing of the
episode, I could have sworn there was
a close-up of Phil's hand grasping the
bedspread as he sat watching the killing --
very reminiscent of Laura Dern's sheet
grabbing during sex scenes in Wild at
Heart. But in the reruns, this cut is missing.

There is, yes.

Yes, I sorta got the impression that Phil was getting off on it.

I looked a third time. The shot is there. It's a
pan from the hand in the lower left to Phil's face.

More like getting his hand around the bedpost, not the covers

I don't remember noticing this.

Remember the scene where Fin is at the no-work construction site, and
there is a fight over some ball-breaking. I remember Eugene and Vitio
were both there, but I forget who was fighting and who was breaking
balls.
