Okay Dr Fegoli insulted Tony somehow about the shotgun but Im not sure how he
meant it. He said "they don't export the good ones", so did he mean the one
Tony got for Hugh was shit? Or did he mean that the one Tony got for Hugh was
obviously stolen or ill gotten somehow? Whatever, it rubbed Tony the wrong way
but how was it meant to be an insult?

The guy was basically saying that Tony was a connected thug.

Not nice at all, considering the Don Tony welcomed Mr Fegala into his home
and Feggy even had an audience with the esteemed Father Phil!

Did they ever refer to him as "Father Freeloader" in the series or did I
imagine it? I either heard it somewhere I can't remember, or just started
using it one day .... Either way it's still funny.

I think the key there was "the good ones". IMHO, he was basically saying
that the gun Tony gave Carmella's father was a cheapie or a fake.

I agree that Dr. Fegoli was putting the shotgun down and letting every one
know that he is so smart(ASS) that he can tell the difference.
I wish that Tony just loaded it up and blew his face off and stood over the
prick and then told him he was right. Now that would have been funny.

I don't think that's right. Tony Soprano is not the type of guy to get a
good friend of his a knockoff Beretta shotgun for his 75th birthday. It's
possible that he was just saying that there are even better ones in Italy,
but I don't think the implication was that the gun he bought was a fake.

BTW - anyone else notice how the gun came in a nice case, but at the end of
the night when the DeAngelises were leaving, Tony just stuffed it into the
trunk of the car? What the fuck happened to the case it it came in, and why
are you just ramming a shotgun into the trunk?

I thought they were going to give it to the smashed Hugh to hold in the car.
maybe with a few shells that the bag-of-hammers-dumb AJ put in it earlier.

I figured that was his way of saying it was stolen---basically putting Tony
down and letting Hugh know that he knew who Tony was.

That's how I took it, too. That would be more of a sophisticated insult
than just telling Tony that the gun he got was second-class. If the guy
disapproves of who Tony is, I would expect him to take a shot at how Tony
gets the things he has, not his eye in picking out gifts.

The gun could be bought and transported legally into USA privately, no
matter how nice. Dr."Fag"goli is just a snob. Bragging about going to
Beretta "studio" .... "best pieces, they never export..." export is
just a way of belittling Tony's obviously nice gift.
