Not sure if this group has reached rigor mortis, but I'll post this in
case any here is reading and may have watched Boardwalk Empire this
week.
In addition to a nice speaking role for Dominic Chianese, (as one of
the racist founding fathers of Atlantic City), there was a nice
allusion to Godfather 2.
In the outtakes of Godfather 2, there is a scene where DeNiro, as
young Vito, meets Hyman Roth, who was modeled on Meyer Lansky. He
takes the name Roth "in honor of the greatest man in America, Arnold
Rothstein, the guy who fixed the world Series".
Later the older Roth explains to Michael Corleone why he never made a
fuss when his associate Moe Greene got a bullet in the eye: "Because
this is the business we have chosen for ourselves!!"
Cut to the current episode of Boardwalk Empire, which includes
Rothstein and his protege Lanksy in the cast (as well as Capone &
Lucciano). Meyer is running a card game and his associate Charlie
"Lucky" Lucciano is conferring with him & frenemy (& fictional
gangster) Jimmy Darmody in his adjoining office.
Darmody & Lucciano trade insults and start coming to blows. Lansky
jumps in between them to stop the tussle with "I'm runnin' a business
heah!!"
